The Hill: But asked this week if she is promoting a Cheney candidacy, Thomas made it clear she isn't.
"The day I say Dick Cheney is going to run for president, I'll kill myself," [Helen Thomas] told The Hill. "All we need is one more liar."
Thomas added, "I think he'd like to run, but it would be a sad day for the country if he does." HT: Pardon my English

Captain's Quarters has the story, Crooks and Liars has the original video from CNBC, and the Political Teen has the video of O'Reilly's piece on this with Goldberg. On his CNBC show the Big Idea, Donnie Deutsch and four other leftists ambushed Bernie Goldberg. None of them had actually read the book, then they edited everything out of the tape that might have made Bernie look like he came out on top. Bernie was a guest on today's Rush Limbaugh show, a program that hardly ever has guests. Listen to the audio here, courtesy of El Rushbo. Hee's the summary by Goldberg: GOLDBERG: Well, the first segment was me and Deutch, but then they say they're going to have four other people on. They tell me that some will be agreeing with me and some will not be agreeing with me. Fine. I don't usually like these food fights, but fine. So I said okay. I come on and after the segment with Deutch, they have four, not liberals, "leftists," and Donny Deutch making five. It was a total sandbag. It was a total ambush. They lied to me to get me on and then -- it's okay if you don't read the book and want to ask me questions. All five, Rush, admitted they never read the book but that didn't stop them from a non-stop attack.
RUSH: Well that's because you are being judgmental in your book.
GOLDBERG: But they haven't read it. They are attacking it.
RUSH: It doesn't matter.
GOLDBERG: And they stacked the deck in the panel. Five against one.
RUSH: Who was on the panel? GOLDBERG: These are people you never heard of. The only one you might have heard of is Linda Stassi, who is the resident liberal at the New York Post. She is like the gossip columnist. So, here's the worst part, it was taped and it ran last night. But what they did, I mean, this is as unethical as it gets. What they did is they took out all of the parts where Donny Deutch, the host, was made to look foolish. You know, at one point I said to him, I said, "You need five people? You need five people to try to argue against me, Donny? You're throwing spit balls at a battleship." Well, that didn't see the light of day. They took a lot of stuff out that embarrassed their host. So, number one, they ambush you. Number two, all five people don't read the book and are bragging that they haven't read it while they are attacking. And, they then edit the tape to make their guy look good at my expense. But you know what? It is a totally unimportant show. The big point is that this is what the cultural elite liberals do these days. They can stab you in the back. No problem, because they know what's best. That's the problem. This time, they did it to me. Big deal. Big deal. Insignificant show. Big deal. They did the exact same thing, Rush, to Judge Bork. They did the exact same thing to Judge Pickering, the judge from Mississippi who they made out to be soft on cross burners -- and they're going to do it again, Rush, with Judge Roberts, and that's why Ralph Neas, the head of People for American Way is #10 on the list in this book. Wahington Times' had a brief mention of this in their Inside the Beltway. Bernie has the left side of the Blogoshprhere going absolutely flaming nuts. Good job Bernie!

It's was a start, as Muslims in the Uk began to condemn the 7/7 bombings. But as mentioned here, by British MP Shahid Malik, Mulims must do more than just condemn the violence -- they must now confront the element within their community. During a recent Q and A at the Financial Times, Malik was asked such jems as "Why have you apostatised from Islam and become the mouth-piece of Tony Blair. Do you hate Muslims this much?"

We're up for a repeat of John Roberts' previous confirmation hearing where Democrats, led by extremist Chuck Shumer, badger Roberts to disclose how he will rule and what he thinks about every recent controversial SCOTUS decision. FOX News has the high point of the last hearin in 2003 when Orin Hatch put Schumer in his place: In the beginning of Wednesday's Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing for Bush nominee John G. Roberts Jr., Chairman Orrin Hatch praised Democrat Sen. Charles Schumer of New York for asking "intelligent" questions, but then Hatch switched gears.
"Some [of his questions] I totally disagree with," Hatch of Utah said. "Some I think are dumbass questions, between you and me. I am not kidding you. I mean, as much as I love and respect you, I just think that's true."
A stunned Schumer asked if he heard the chairman correctly, to which Hatch said yes. Again, Schumer asked Hatch if he would like to "revise and extend his remark," congressional speak for change his mind.
A former trial attorney, Hatch replied: "No, I am going to keep it exactly the way it is. I mean, I hate to say it. I mean, I feel badly saying it between you and me. But I do know dumbass questions when I see dumbass questions." Liberals won't let a Republican nominee use the precidents established at Ruth Bader Ginsgurg's hearings. Hugh Hewitt points to an article (in pdf format) at the Federalist Society, in which "Jay T. Jorgensen explains in detail the importance of the Ginsburg precedents established by the Ginsburg hearings."

Behind the scenes at last nights press conference introducing John Roberts, little son Jack had what experts call "Ants in the Pants" (according to Steve Doocy of Fox and Friends). He danced around, acted like he was conducting a symphony, then pretended to take some pictures with an imaginary camera. After a few minutes of his antics the secret service could be seen leading the wife and children away. A few seconds later only the wife returned. Classic stuff by an adorable little pistol. For info go to WILLisms.com: John Roberts, Dancing Machine, GOP Vixen: Why Bush Smirked, and Michelle Malkin: THE SON, THE SMIRK, THE SICKOS. I'm searching for the video that was shown on Fax this morning.

This happened on the air last friday on CNN's Lou Dobbs. From MRC's Cyberalert:Just after Dobbs explained that "President Bush's political adviser may not have been the original source for the Valerie Plame leak," but before the taped story from reporter Dana Bash could begin, a woman -- presumably positioned nearby Dobbs' microphone on CNN's set -- could be heard loudly whispering her own rejoinder: " That's bullshit! " Ouch! Listen to the audio mp3 from MRC.

A very interesting read is a column by Jonathan Last of the Weekly Standard in yesterday's WSJ, History According to Harry - Appeasement fails with warlocks too, about the historical parallels between the fifth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and pre-WWII England. J.K. Rowling draws on "Britain's prewar dithering," (as Last calls it). The struggle between a war-ready Winston Churchill vs. the appeasement philosophy of Neville Chamberlain are the clear inspiration for part of the book where Albus Dumbledore sounds a call to arms against a reemerging Lord Voldemort while the Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge launches a campaign to discredit and deny the gathering danger.

Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman, along with Senators Kit Bond and Kay Bailey Hutchison, came out to bat for the administration today after the Schumer/Wilson press conference. The video of Schumer/Wilson is here (realplayer) and the response from Coleman and Co. is here, courtesy of C-SPAN. The Miami Herald had this gem: "Sen. Norm Coleman has a message for Democrats who are criticizing top White House aid Karl Rove for his involvement in leaking the identity of a CIA operative: butt out." Wilson is one brazen SOB, after being busted by the Senate Select Commitee on Intel for lying his ass off, he goes out there like he's some kind of victim doing his patriotic duty.

John Podhoretz at The Corner floats the idea that Judith Miller, herself, is the leaker, as does Stephen Spruiell at NRO's Media Blog. Here's a key clue, from a WaPo story: Sources close to the investigation say there is evidence in some instances that some reporters may have told government officials -- not the other way around -- that Wilson was married to Plame, a CIA employee. Spruiell points to Cliff Kincaid's AIM column on the subject. Also of note is a post at Powerline about the NY Times lecturing about leaks when they blew a CIA operation, published the names of CIA employees, front companies, flight paths, and even plane tail numbers, endangering lives and national security in the process ( Winds of Change has more info). The Times is a circus of phonies.

They just can't moveon. The feeding frenzy on Rove/Plame continued for another day at today's White House Press Briefing by Scott McClellan. McClellan repeatedly answered, "I can't comment an an ongoing investigation," but the questions about Rove came none the less. David (Ape Face) Gregory is a complete smart ass punk: Gregory: Scott, you know what, to make a general observation here, in a previous administration, if a press secretary had given the sort of answers you've just given in referring to the fact that everybody who works here enjoys the confidence of the President, Republicans would have hammered them as having a kind of legalistic and sleazy defense. I mean, the reality is that you're parsing words, and you've been doing it for a few days now. So does the President think Karl Rove did something wrong, or doesn't he?
MR. McCLELLAN: No, David, I'm not at all. I told you and the President told you earlier today that we don't want to prejudge the outcome of an ongoing investigation. And I think we've been round and round on this for two days now.
Gregory: Even if it wasn't a crime? You know, there are those who believe that even if Karl Rove was trying to debunk bogus information, as Ken Mehlman suggested yesterday -- perhaps speaking on behalf of the White House -- that when you're dealing with a covert operative, that a senior official of the government should be darn well sure that that person is not undercover, is not covert, before speaking about them in any way, shape, or form. Does the President agree with that or not?
MR. McCLELLAN: Again, we've been round and round on this for a couple of days now. I don't have anything to add to what I've said the previous two days.
Gregory: That's a different question, and it's not round and round --
MR. McCLELLAN: You heard from the President earlier.
Gregory: It has nothing to do with the investigation, Scott, and you know it.
MR. McCLELLAN: You heard from the President earlier today, and the President said he's not --
Gregory: That's a dodge to my question. It has nothing to do with the investigation. Is it appropriate for a senior official to speak about a covert agent in any way, shape, or form without first finding out whether that person is working as a covert officer.
MR. McCLELLAN: Well, first of all, you're wrong. This is all relating to questions about an ongoing investigation, and I've been through this.
Gregory: If I wanted to ask you about an ongoing investigation, I would ask you about the statute, and I'm not doing that.
MR. McCLELLAN: I think we've exhausted discussion on this the last couple of days.
Gregory: You haven't even scratched the surface.
Gregory: It hasn't started.
MR. McCLELLAN: I look forward to talking about it once the investigation is complete, as the President does, as well. And you heard from the President earlier today. I would pay money to see McClellan slap the shit out of this insolent bitch. Lets see all of McClellan's different responses to this, over and over and over: MR. McCLELLAN: I told you and the President told you earlier today that we don't want to prejudge the outcome of an ongoing investigation. And I think we've been round and round on this for two days now.
MR. McCLELLAN: Again, I've nothing to add on this discussion, and if we have any other topics you want to discuss, I'll be glad to do that.
MR. McCLELLAN: Again, we've been through this for two days now, and I've already responded to those questions.
MR. McCLELLAN: We can continue to go round and round on all these -- MR. McCLELLAN: And let me just say again that anything relating to an ongoing investigation, I'm not going to get into discussing. I've said that the past couple of days.
MR. McCLELLAN: And again, these are all some of the similar questions that have been coming up over the last couple of days, and I don't have anything to add while this investigation is ongoing.
MR. McCLELLAN: And again, these are all some of the similar questions that have been coming up over the last couple of days, and I don't have anything to add while this investigation is ongoing.
MR. McCLELLAN: Again --
MR. McCLELLAN: And those questions I've been through the last couple of days, this morning, and there's really nothing to add. And I appreciate it, but we've exhausted this discussion, I think. And we need to let that investigation proceed.
MR. McCLELLAN: Again, this is a creative way to come out to the same kind of questions. Get the picture? Here it is: C-SPAN has the video (Realplayer).

But at some point, Shahzad Tanweer, named Tuesday as a suspected suicide bomber in a blast that tore apart an Underground carriage in London last week, became consumed by the rage that has swept across Europe of a new and restive generation of Islamic extremists."

A Rassmussen poll backs Bush and the Republicans in the impending SCOTUS nomination. Even among Democrats, a majority say Senators should vote to confirm: If President Bush nominates a qualified conservative to serve on the Supreme Court, 58% of Likely Voters say that Senate Democrats should vote to confirm that nominee.
A Rasmussen Reports survey found that just 24% believe that Harry Reid's party should oppose such a nominee.
Republicans and unaffiliated voters strongly support confirmation. Democrats are evenly divided--43% say their Senators should vote to confirm while 38% take the opposite view.

The frenzy on Rove/Plame commences. It happened at yesterday's White House Press Briefing by Scott McClellan. The entire White House press corps, especially ABC's Terry Moran and NBC's David (Ape Face) Gregory went totally nuts on McClellan. Political Teen has the video. They may have topped their Koran flushing antics (how can you stand their at that podium, blah, blah, blah...). Some press from WaPo's Dana Milbank: Furious press corps gives Bush spokesman a grilling. Blogosphere coverage from MM and Lorie Byrd. UPDATE- Mark in Mexico has a breakdown of the questions, with all thats going on in the world, (London bombing, Iraq, WoT, Supreme Court, etc.), 71% of the questions were about Rove/Plame. Thats a Rove/Plame question followed by the same question 48 more times. And it happened again today to McClellan. Also worth reading are two posts at Captain's Quarters ( here and here), El Rushbo, John Podhoretz, and Byron York. There's a ton of stories to browse at Freep, including John Conyers says Rove be sent to Gitmo. Also the folks who wrote the law say Rove didn't break it. Another theory is that Judith Miller herself was the source of the info.

A Newsweek article by none other than Michael Isikoff (the guy behind the Koran flushing story) says essentially that Karl Rove is the leaker. How do we know this? From yet another leak, this time from documents that Time turned over to the court (a leak of grand jury documents, or from was the leak on Time's end?) and, naturally, authenticated by another anonymous source (sound familiar): NEWSWEEK obtained a copy of the e-mail that Cooper sent his bureau chief after speaking to Rove. (The e-mail was authenticated by a source intimately familiar with Time's editorial handling of the Wilson story, but who has asked not to be identified because of the magazine's corporate decision not to disclose its contents.) See Powerline for the implications, if there even are any beyond MSM hype and hope. Excellent observations from Dafydd over at Captain's Quarters.
